Not Just A Song

Whose is this song? Is it Turkish, Greek, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbian or perhaps Jewish?

I will share a couple of versions of a song, Uskudar'a Gider iken or Katibim(in Turkish). There are several versions of this song, some of which are filmed in the documentary Whose Is This Song. There you can also see how can just a song create tension among people, of course in Balkans!

I will not go into the discussions about the origin of the song. However, it would be really funny if Sunay Akin is right and the rhythm belongs to a Scottish folk song, considering the controversy depicted in the documentary.

My favorite version is the one sung by a Jewish family with a clean Turkish.

Here are some other versions. I want to note that reading the comment sections of YouTube videos was great, I recommend to everyone!
